Last week marked the one year anniversary of H.R. 8, the bipartisan universal background checks bill passed in the House — but left untouched in the Senate.

And while we have been waiting for an entire year for Mitch McConnell to bring this bipartisan, lifesaving legislation to the Senate floor, nearly 40,000 people died from gun violence in our country.

That includes five Americans who less than 24 hours before the anniversary of H.R. 8 lost their lives during a shooting while they were at work at the Molson Coors plant in Milwaukee.

That news was tragic, and it’s all too common these days. For an entire year, we’ve pushed Mitch McConnell to allow senators to vote on universal background checks — legislation that over 90% of Americans agree with.
