John,
The richest people in America are $500 billion richer today than they were a year ago. Meanwhile, everyday folks continue to face stagnant wages and rising costs, mounting bills, and crushing debt.
We need a wealth tax to combat growing income inequality. A tax on the ultra-rich will provide critical funds for healthcare, child care, housing, education, and infrastructure. It will help working Americans prosper. Yet corporate lobbyists are using their influence to prevent billionaires from paying their fair share. These lobbyists are looking toward the Supreme Court to back them up in the upcoming Moore v. United States case, which will determine Congress’ ability to tax the unrealized gains of wealthy individuals.
TAKE ACTION: Tell MSNBC to host a wealth tax debate. |
Neal Katyal, the acting solicitor general during the Obama administration, has filed an amicus brief on behalf of the lobbyists opposed to the wealth tax. I know Neal as someone who cares deeply about the threats to our democracy; I believe he should recognize how massive wealth inequality tears apart our nation.
That’s why I’m calling on MSNBC to host a debate on the wealth tax between Neal and me on The Mehdi Hasan Show, where Neal is a regular contributor. I’m ready to speak up for working Americans, because the American people deserve to know what’s at risk if SCOTUS decides to protect the billionaire class. Sign the petition: MSNBC must host a wealth tax debate. Our best hope of changing this dynamic is to raise public awareness and, in turn, public support for the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share. In solidarity, Ro |
