Dear Colleague,
Today, October 5th, is Latina Equal Pay Day. It’s not a celebration.
It marks the day into the year it takes for Latinas on average to earn what all US men did the previous year. Inequity like this means that Latinas never “catch up”, losing more than $1 million over the course of their career, as activist Monica Ramirez wrote recently in Time Magazine.
Latina workers grapple with a disheartening pay gap. In 2022, Latinas earned on average only 52 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men. This accounts for part-time, full-time, and seasonal workers across all industries. Help end this discrimination.
Take action on federal policy if you’re US based. Sign the petition to urge federal lawmakers to take swift action on the Paycheck Fairness Act, Raising the Wage Act of 2023, and passing the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights and the Restaurant Worker Bill of Rights.
We also thank global allies who are helping us raise awareness about this issue on social media. Learn more about the campaign, download toolkits here. Our collective hashtags for the day will be #LatinaEqualPay and #Trabajadoras.
Together we demand more.
Working people from across sectors are organizing and pushing for better conditions. Actors and writers, hotel workers, domestic workers, farmworkers, auto workers, city workers, restaurant workers & more, including millions of working Latinas are making their voices heard to be paid fully, fairly, now.
Thank you for standing in solidarity with them so we all can demand our fair share.
