Dear Friends,

This October, we invite you to engage with NRCAT and some of our interfaith and campaign partners through these upcoming opportunities:

Register here to join the Episcopal Church and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture for a webinar entitled Stop the Torture: Ending Solitary Confinement on Monday, October 30, 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. PT. This presentation and discussion will feature survivors of solitary working to end this form of torture and will discuss how faith allies can engage in advocacy for the abolition of this practice. Presenters will include Rebecca Linder Blachly, director of The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations, as well as NRCAT national staff members, Johnny Perez and Laura Markle Downton.

• Join the next virtual meeting of the NRCAT National Network of Solitary Survivors on Thursday, October 26 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT hosted by Johnny Perez, Director of the NRCAT U.S. Prisons Program, and Michael Saveedra, National Network Coordinator, who are both solitary survivors themselves. Register here!

• Are you planning to attend the 2023 Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice Boundless and Beloved, in Washington, D.C. October 28-30? If so, be sure to stop by the NRCAT booth to connect with NRCAT national staff. Registration and details are available here.

• On Friday the 13th, survivors of torture tell of the very real horrors of solitary confinement. Join us for BOXED IN, an experiential social media event, hosted by our partners at Unlock the Box, a national campaign to end solitary. The 24-hour live streaming event, written and produced by solitary survivors, exposes the horrors of solitary confinement and includes video from an abandoned solitary confinement cell at Eastern State Penitentiary and experts, including NRCAT’s Johnny Perez at noon ET/9 a.m. PT, joining throughout the day to answer live questions via comments/posts. You can tune in on October 13 on NRCAT's Facebook account or X(formerly Twitter) account.

• Are you attending the Reconciling Ministries Network Convocation 2023 in Charlotte, N.C. Oct 13-15, hosted by First United Methodist Church of Charlotte? NRCAT’s Rev. T.C. Morrow will be leading a workshop on public policy advocacy. Learn more and register here

We look forward to learning and connecting with you in the coming weeks.

The NRCAT Team, Ron, T.C., Johnny, Laura and Michael
