John,
President Biden has inexplicably named Elliot Abrams to join the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. After decades of war crimes and unethical behaviors, this nomination must be rejected.
Over decades serving Presidents from Reagan to Trump, Abrams has consistently been on the wrong side of history, supporting tyrannical regimes and showing little or no concern about violations of human rights.
If we allow someone with Elliot Abrams’ background and instincts to represent our country diplomatically, we are signaling to our own citizens and to the global community that we do not sufficiently value ethical principles, the rule of law, or national security.
Contact your Senators today to urge them to reject Abrams’ nomination to the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy now!
The list of Abrams’ offensive actions is long and covers decades. As far back as the Iran-Contra scandal, Abrams plead guilty to two counts of withholding information from Congress, enabling the illegal provision of arms to the Nicaraguan Contras and supporting the Iranian regime, in opposition to laws passed by the U.S. Congress.
Abrams supported and defended genocidal regimes, such as that of Guatemalan dictator Efrain Rios Montt, and he downplayed the El Mozote massacre in El Salvador.
He disregarded human rights concerns as Trump’s special envoy to Iran and Venezuela, calling for increases in sanctions that would worsen the situation for civilians.
As recently as last month, he wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal in favor of resuming the ban on travel to the U.S. from majority-Muslim countries.
American diplomacy must display the highest ethical standards to be worthy of our people. Let’s be sure our Senators know how important it is to us that the face we present to the world represents our highest values.
Send a message to your Senators now to reject Elliot Abrams’ nomination to the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy.
Thank you for calling for the representation of your values on the global stage.
