Dear John,
Race Forward is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and the
Latino/a/x/e diaspora's contributions to our efforts towards a
multiracial society. The concept of Hispanic Heritage Month was
originally a weeklong celebration that was expanded to a month-long
recognition in 1988. The month-long celebration coincides with the
Independence Day celebrations of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El
Salvador, and Nicaragu a.
Here's What's New!
Hispanic Heritage Month x International Podcast Day
Podcasters of Color are set to be the global majority in the
future. In our latest episode of Momentum: A Race Forward Podcast,
Hendel Leiva, Manager of Podcasts and Audio Initiatives interviews the
co-founders of BIPOC Podcast Creators Tangia Al-awaji Estrada and
Maribel Quezada-Smith. Tangia and Maribel share their stories of how
they became podcasters, the challenges they experienced as women of
color in podcasting, and how a Facebook group was the catalyst for
founding and launching the BIPOC Podcast Creators in 2021. They also
talk about the exponential growth of the BIPOC Podcast Creators
community, and the wins in representation, access, and partnerships
generated across the industry for its members.

In the new video from Colorlines, "Courage Is Contagious" Alejandra
Gomez, Executive Director of Living United for Change in Arizona
(LUCHA), speaks about how the courage to exercise one's voice against
injustice can encourage others to enact theirs around a shared purpose,
which over time can catalyze movement-building momentum that sustains
for the long run. Reflecting on the ten years of organizing against
deportations and laws such as the infamous SB1070 law in Arizona, she
talks about the resilience to continue fighting for human dignity and
"voicing our vote at the ballot box."
Revisiting Reflections
The current iteration of the immigration crisis has renewed calls for comprehensive reform. Our podcast mini-series Reflections – recorded in partnership with the National Partnership For
New Americans (NPNA) – brings you exclusive interviews with leaders within the immigrant rights movement. The conversations emphasize the urgency of the moment
across the movement that have been exacerbated the invisibility of communities, anti-Blackness in policy, the federal government's pace in addressing priorities, and maintaining motivation within the movement.

What's YOUR identity?
The terms "Hispanic", "Latino/a", "Latinx", and "Latine" are often used
interchangeably; however, they are VERY different.
If you belong to this diaspora, tell us which of these terms speak to you the most.
