Good Morning Comrades!
Welcome to your (semi-)regular newsletter from Phoenix DSA! This email is your guide to our October actions, events, meetings, and more. As the weather cools down, our work is only heating up! Keep reading to find out how you can get involved.
Arizona Works Together!

Phoenix DSA has endorsed Arizona Works Together and joined the AWT Coalition to abolish anti-union "right-to-work" laws!
Just one month after launching, the AZ Works Together Coalition includes Phoenix DSA, Tucson DSA, ASU YDSA, UAW Region 6, United Campus Workers AZ, AZ Cannabis Workers Rising, BCTGM local 232, American Federation of Musicians Local 33 (Tucson), the Maricopa County Young Dems Labor Committee, the Arizona Students Association, Arizona Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander for Equity (AZ AANHPI for Equity), and PDA-AZ, among others. As of today, AWT has also received endorsements from six incumbent AZ State Legislators and two candidates for public office.
The media is starting to take notice of this important campaign. AWT has also been featured in news stories and articles on AZFamily, KOLD 13, AZ Capitol Times, and KJZZ. We even received recognition from More Perfect Union and economist Robert Reich. AWT is also live on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
“Right-to-work” laws are intended to limit wages and mobility for workers by undercutting unions and collective bargaining. This only hurts the working class. Years of data confirm that right-to-work states have lower wages, fewer benefits, higher turnover rates, and higher infant mortality rates. Workers in right-to-work states are less likely to receive promotions, less likely to secure healthcare, less likely to achieve good credit scores, and more likely to leave a job or be fired unfairly.
As AWT prepares to launch a signature gathering campaign, we need donations and volunteers. Printing petition sheets, purchasing canvassing supplies, training volunteers, hiring notaries, and paying lawyers to defend the initiative in court is expensive.
That's why we are asking Phoenix DSA's members and allies to donate and volunteer whenever possible. We need all the help we can get to pull this off! Please visit our website at www.AZWorksTogether.com or www.AZTrabajaUnida.com to fill out our volunteer sign-up form and contribute to support this work for workers' rights.
AZ Works Together is a grassroots campaign for workers, by workers. This campaign exists to ensure fair laws for fair pay. We know the road ahead is long, but when Arizona Works Together, we win!
Call For Volunteers! Get Involved!

During 2023 Phoenix DSA has developed an active and consistent presence in Arizona's political, labor, and mutual aid organizing communities. To continue that work, we need the help and support of our members. We need help with communications, political education, neighborhood organizing, field work, project management, merch creation and sales, and community representation. If you have other skills that you'd like to contribute, we need that too!
If you have any interest in getting involved with Phoenix DSA and our ongoing or upcoming projects, please complete this Volunteer Sign Up Form.
Phoenix Pride Parade 2023!

Phoenix DSA is marching in this year's Pride Parade on October 22! We would love for you to join us on October 21 to prepare our float for the parade (art action details TBA), and then on October 22 at 8:00am in Steele Indian School park to prepare for the parade!
DSA Chapters from around Arizona (and even California) will be joining us for this event, and we are in need of solidarity housing! If you have a couch or an extra bed or an air mattress where comrades could sleep over the weekend of October 21, please send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Solidarity Housing" and details about how many people could comfortably stay in your home for that weekend.
If you have any questions about joining us in the Phoenix Pride Parade, please send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Pride Parade Question" and your name.
October Regular Meeting and Canvass Training!
Please join us on October 21 for our second in-person chapter meeting of the year! We are currently planning to meet at the same location as last month, and a hybrid option will be available.
With our organizing efforts continuing to expand, we need to orient our actions and train our members to connect with voters, gather signatures, and table at events. Please join us on October 21 for an informative and action-oriented meeting around upcoming events and current chapter needs. RSVP HERE!
That's all for now!
If you're looking to get involved but nothing here interests you, please join our STRIKE FORCE to be invited to labor actions and check our Chapter Calendar for upcoming events.
You can also meet us for drinks, food, and good times every Tuesday night for our Socialist Socials! Information about the socials goes out on our Phoenix DSA Instagram and our chapter slack. If you need help joining the chapter slack or have questions about upcoming actions or events, please send an email to [email protected]!
