History is in the making for the first time in a long time at our nation’s capital.



The House on October 3 voted 216 to 210 to remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as House speaker, and I am not afraid to say I was one of the eight Republicans to vote for his removal.



I want to make it clear that this was not a choice I took lightly. Kevin McCarthy is not just a colleague; he’s a friend. But just like Harry S. Truman said many moons ago, if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. And guess what? I already have three furry companions — Charlie, Buzz, and Roscoe — waiting for me at home in Tennessee.



In all sincerity, friend, this was a situation where I had to voice my conscience. I voted the way I did in the name of our great nation. We're talking about being a whopping $33 trillion in debt, and yet, we treated the entire month of August like an extended summer vacation. It's like we forgot that the fiscal year ends like clockwork every year.



The result? A continuing resolution that kicks the can down the road for another 45 days. By that time, Thanksgiving will be right around the corner. With our backs up against the wall, this entire circus will end in an omnibus spending bill that keeps the gravy train running full steam ahead.



But my colleagues Andy Biggs, Ken Buck, Eli Crane, Matt Gaetz, Bob Good, Nancy Mace, Matt Rosendale and I are through with the D.C. spending spree status quo, and we know you are too.



That’s why I am reaching out to you today. You deserve to know the truth and have a government that works for you. Support like yours has gotten us to this point where the conservative movement is as strong as ever, and Kevin’s unprecedented ousting is the proof in the pudding.
