I have good
news to share about a library I recently visited in Dayton during my 39
County tour.

Following a successful lawsuit, the Dayton library will not become the
first in the country to close because of the books on the shelves.

I will explain more below, but if you agree that book bans threaten our
freedom and our democracy, [ [link removed] ]please sign my petition to stop book bans in
Washington State.

First, radicals objected to a book about what it means to be transgender
and the experience of coming out — demanding it be removed from the
shelves. Then, they started going after other books that mention gender,
sexuality, and race. When those efforts failed, these extremists called
for the library itself to close, depriving this small community of an
essential resource.

The legal victory to preserve the Dayton library is an important victory
for our state, but this fight isn’t over. Those who sought to shut the
library down still want to control what books you, I, and everyone else
are allowed to read — and they won’t stop just because they lost this one
fight.

As Governor, I will stand up to the radical movement to ban books and
close libraries. I’ll defend every Washingtonian’s freedom to read books,
stand up for democracy, and put a stop to this form of censorship.
