Good morning from Washington, D.C.! We are still feeling the momentum of last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, where Heritage President Kay C. James put fire in the bellies of attendees with an energizing address. Meanwhile, with so many demagogues still stumping on behalf of socialism, we asked a young man who escaped socialist Venezuela what he thinks about socialism vs. liberty. Parker Lecture featuring retired federal judge Janice Rogers Brown, who gave a sharp rebuke to anti-American voices who are intent on tearing this country down. Heritage President Kay C. James Rallies the Troops at CPAC
Heritage President Kay C. James gave a rousing speech last Thursday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. “Ladies and gentleman, we face a battle today between those who want to preserve this nation and those who are working to bring her down from within,” says James. “The question I have for you is, are you ready for the battle? Are you ready for the fight?” She urged CPAC attendees to show the same character, determination, and sacrifice that helped found this republic in order to preserve it. Read her full remarks here. 

A Victim of Socialism Finds Hope in America
Every time you turn on the television, it seems there are more and more people who want to bring socialism to America. But what do people who came to America from a socialist country think about socialism? We spoke with Daniel DiMartino, a young man who grew up amidst the violence, poverty, and corruption of socialist Venezuela. Fortunately, he was able to escape to America. “Free things sound good, but government-provided free things come at the price of government control over your life,” says DiMartino. Judge Janice Rogers Brown Takes Aim at Anti-American Mob Mentality
There is a bitter, vicious movement in America that believes our country is riddled with bigotry, hatred, and oppression. It is important to ask ourselves, do these voices criticize with the intent of improving, or simply to tear down? This was the subject of a talk given by former judge Janice Rogers Brown, who served on the influential U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She spoke at Heritage last week at the third annual Jay A. Parker Lecture, held in honor of the founding father of the emerging black conservative movement. Brown criticized the demonization of America in this way: “It is an analysis expressed not in a manner of a critic hoping to improve, but as an enemy eager to destroy.
