Impact Update

As we prepare for the 2023 WJP Rule of Law Index launch, we’re working hard to get our data in the hands of people who can create change around the world.

Building Trust in Judicial Institutions

WJP Mexico’s Open Justice Metric provides actionable data so justice institutions can improve participation, transparency, accountability, and collaboration with the communities that they serve.

And this work is already making an impact—Mexico has included open justice in its OGP National Plan for the first time, and the Mexican state of Quintana Roo published its Open Justice Policy last month, while similar policies are in the works in Querétaro, Coahuila, and Chihuahua.

Strengthening Rule of Law in Asia

In August, we facilitated a workshop in Thailand for representatives of government, civil society, the academic, and private sector to discuss Thailand’s data in the WJP Rule of Law Index and how to achieve the government’s stated goal of improving its Index score over the next five years.

Then, on September 30, WJP, together with LexisNexis and the Malaysian Human Rights Commission, convened regional experts in Kuala Lumpur to discuss combatting disinformation while protecting free speech.

Growing out of collaboration with the Commonwealth Lawyers Association in Asia, this quarter we signed a new agreement to work with the organization globally, including to expand the number of Commonwealth countries included in the WJP Rule of Law Index

WJP Wins Roosevelt Prize

Last month, the American Bar Association awarded WJP the Eleanor Roosevelt Prize for Global Human Rights Advancement. WJP Co-Founder and CEO Bill Neukom accepted the award at a ceremony that recognized WJP’s work alongside fellow awardees the ONE Campaign, World Central Kitchen, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
