Hi, it’s Roland Gutierrez, the Democratic TX State Senator running for U.S. Senate against Ted Cruz. My opponent has made no secret of the fact that he wants to ban books in Texas. Whether they’re written by people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, or simply don’t conform to his twisted worldview, Cruz has made it clear he wants a say in what books can appear in our libraries. In Cruz’s universe, schools would become right-wing indoctrination factories that whitewash American history. Look, as the State Senator who represents Uvalde, I’m committed to protecting kids – not only by banning guns but also by restoring diversity of thought to our schools, libraries, and, most importantly, the U.S. Senate.
