After weeks of House Republicans’ disagreements and arguments and hours before the government was set to shut down, Congress passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open for another 45 days.
In order to pass the spending bills and avoid a shutdown that would’ve hurt our economy, our military, and millions of federal workers, Speaker Kevin McCarthy needed House Democrats to step up when he couldn’t get the MAGA wing of his party to do the right thing. Then those MAGA Republicans turned on McCarthy and organized a motion-to-vacate vote and ousted him as Speaker of the House -- a solemn day for our country.
When I was House Majority Whip, I was in constant communication with party leadership and our caucus to ensure we were united and had the numbers to pass legislation -- including essential spending bills. McCarthy and his party couldn't get on the same page.
We deserve leaders who are focused on addressing the issues that matter -- not botched partisan games.
The division and chaos we’ve seen among House Republicans in recent weeks is a reminder of the importance of our work together to win back the House and elect leaders who are committed to serving the American people above all else.
That’s why your engagement with our movement is critical, John, and I am grateful for everything this community did ahead of last month’s FEC deadline. The upcoming elections will be competitive and expensive, and we’ll need everyone getting involved between now and Election Day. So thank you again for all you do.
Thank you,
Jim
