Hi John,
There’s no nice way to say it: The far-right’s partisan games and irresponsible demands nearly put the health of our economy and the health of our planet in jeopardy.
Thanks to you and so many other EDF Action members who took action to tell Congress to keep the government open, millions of Americans are breathing a sigh of relief, as Congress narrowly avoided a painful government shutdown. But our work isn’t finished.
In historic fashion, the House voted on Tuesday to remove Kevin McCarthy from his leadership post as Speaker, throwing House Republicans into disarray yet again and stalling the business of the House. Because of the unprecedented nature of this move, we can't fully know what happens next or what the impacts will be, but we are watching this evolving situation and will keep you posted.
Now, without an elected Speaker, Congress has until November 17 to pass responsible funding legislation. Legislation that not only keeps the government functional, but continues to support programs that are already creating jobs and reducing climate pollution.
Extreme Republicans in the House have shown us that this will be an uphill battle, but one that we can win. Take action and show Congress how many Americans want robust funding for climate and clean energy!
With continued funding we can further America’s clean energy economy, doubling down on progress that’s felt here at home and all across the nation. This year alone the U.S. has kickstarted over 270 new clean energy projects, creating over 170,000 good paying clean energy jobs and establishing our country as a leader in electric vehicle and battery manufacturing.
We cannot let the far-right put this progress at risk. That’s why we’re asking advocates from across the country to raise their voices and show support for the climate and clean energy programs we’ve fought so hard for.
Will you join us and fight for a responsible budget that expands affordable clean energy, lowers household energy costs and protects public health? Take action today!
Thank you for fighting with us,
Wes Rogerson
