1) It’s More Expensive To Keep the Lights on in Blue States
Yet another reason that blue states are becoming unlivable: expensive renewable energy standards drive up the cost of heating a home, powering a factory, or running a business.

The Department of Energy just released the most recent average retail prices of electricity in the 50 states and DC.

[link removed]
Most blue states are paying at least 50% more (and sometimes twice as much) for power than the red states. It’s another reason people and businesses are leaving blue states. Our advice is states should either abolish renewable requirements OR count natural gas, hydropower, and nuclear as clean energy – which they are.

Washington State is a blue state with very low power costs. How did they do it? Washington gets more of its energy from hydropower than almost any other state.

Want more green energy? We need more dams! Oh yeah, we forgot. The greens are against that too!

2) Look Who’s Now in the National Portrait Gallery
Last night your Hotline team attended the 50-Year Anniversary Party for ALEC – which represents conservative state legislators across the country. Congratulations to CEO Lisa Nelson for a splendid evening.

The event was held at the National Portrait Gallery – which is part of the Smithsonian Institution – and contains memorable drawings of great Americans throughout our nation’s history.

We couldn’t help shuddering that one of the more prominent pictures that now adorns the main hall of the gallery was this one:

Fauci belongs in a gallery of famous American anti-heroes. Put him next to Benedict Arnold, Lee Harvey Oswald, Bonnie and Clyde, and the Rosenbergs.

3) Kamala Blames Fear of Climate Change for the Lousy Economy
Kamala Harris was asked why the economy is in trouble with home sales dropping to a 14-year low and mortgage applications at a 27-year-low. Here was her bumbling answer:

“Young leaders" suffer from "climate anxiety," which she defines as "their fear about … whether they should have children, whether they should ever think about buying a home for fear that it might be wiped out because of extreme weather occurrences.”

How rich is this? So Biden and Kamala and the entire leftwing movement scare the bejesus out of our children with nonstop end-of-the-world indoctrination rhetoric on climate change. And then they wonder why millennials and Generation Xers are so paralyzed with fear that they won’t invest in the future.

How many times have we warned of the impact of the left’s over-the-top doomsday hysteria on our children? This is a bit of a replay of what happened in the 1970s when women tragically stopped having children so they wouldn’t contribute to the fake “population bomb.” Now their scare tactics are torpedoing the Biden economy. There’s some rough justice here.

As for us, we don’t suffer from “climate anxiety", we have Kamala anxiety.

4) Democratic DA Sues Sacramento Mayor for Ignoring Homeless Crisis
Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho is determined that California’s state capital doesn’t become another San Francisco, held hostage by left-wing ideologues who give free rein to the homeless. He’s suing the city of Sacramento for creating a public safety crisis and then ignoring it.

The number of homeless in Sacramento has increased by over 250 percent in the last seven years. “There are more homeless people in Sacramento than San Francisco," he says.

“It’s not compassionate to let someone die in the sweltering summer sun or freeze to death…It’s not compassionate when someone in a wheelchair cannot use a sidewalk blocked by tents or a small business is forced to close forever due to repeated broken windows and vandalism.”

Ho’s lawsuit was filed along with a separate suit on behalf of business owners and residents. Ho explains: “Our responsibility as elected officials is to make sure that we keep our streets safe and clean. And frankly, that hasn’t happened for years."

We will let you know if common sense for once prevails in California.

5) Quote of the Day – Why Americans Aren’t Feeling the Love for Bidenomics
James K. Galbraith, the son of liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith and a professor at the Lyndon Johnson School of Public Affairs in Texas, on why “Bidenomics” isn’t selling with voters:

Unlike unemployment, inflation does affect everyone. But what matters to working people is not the monthly or yearly price change taken alone. What matters is the effect on purchasing power and living standards over time. Whether these are rising or falling depends on the relationship of prices to wages. When wage growth exceeds price increases, times are generally good. When it doesn’t, they aren’t.

It is here that Biden has a problem. During his presidency, living standards have not risen. From early 2021 to mid-2023, prices have increased more than wages, implying that real (inflation-adjusted) hourly wages and real weekly earnings have fallen, on average. Not by much, but they have fallen. Worse, the average figure probably masks a larger fall, in real terms, for families that started out below the average. And given how income distributions work, there are always many more families earning less than the average than there are who earn more.
