Dear John,
For decades, Texas foster kids were only given a trash bag to pack up their lives when they were removed from their homes. Last session, I passed “Bags of Love” to ensure that all foster kids at least have a backpack or bag to call their own.
Our foster kids deserve dignity and respect.
27 years ago, when CPS came to Hallie Lively’s door, she was given five minutes and a trash bag to pack up her life. She described the process as “devastating." Hallie’s story and advocacy inspired this legislation. We passed “Bags of Love” to ensure it would never happen again.
We've heard from countless advocates and community members about their experiences with our child welfare system. There’s still so much that needs to be done, but this is a huge win for our kids.
To celebrate “Bags of Love” we are having a bag and backpack drive! Here’s how you can help:
1) Use our Amazon wishlist—https://bit.ly/BagsOfLove1—to order a bag to be shipped directly to children in need.
2) Drop off a new backpack, duffle bag, etc. at our District Office in Cedar Park—3016 Polar Ln Suite 108, Cedar Park, TX 78613—from 10 AM to 2 PM next Mon., Oct. 9 through Wed., Oct. 11.
Thank you for your continued support!
Your friend,
