Dear John,

WHO WE ARE: LDAD is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting democracy and the rule of law, and to galvanizing the legal profession to join this effort. Led by a board of legal luminaries that includes a former State Attorney General, State Supreme Court and appellate justices, and a former president of the American Bar Association, the organization has been delivering on its founding principles since it began.

WHAT WE DO: The extraordinary accomplishments of this small but influential group include:

Holding lawyers accountable for violating the rule of law, their oaths to uphold the Constitution, and ethical rules of conduct by filing meticulously researched ethics complaints against, for example: Rudolph Giuliani, now suspended from the practice of law, (LDAD’s complaint was joined by more than 7,500 signatories); Texas Attorney General Kenneth Paxton, (joined by distinguished Texas lawyers, including four former State Bar of Texas Presidents and legal ethics experts); DOJ official Jeffrey Clark, Trump attorneys John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, and other lawyers instrumental in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Devising a Call-to-Action program, joined by thousands of lawyers around the country and addressing multiple threats to democracy, including voter suppression, the whitewashing of American history, a Texas vigilante anti-abortion law, and hate speech.

Filing numerous amicus briefs in Federal and State courts, including the Supreme Court’s Moore v. Harper case, where LDAD’s argument – against the dangerous position that state legislatures should be the sole authority on election issues, immune from state court review – was on the prevailing side.

Partnering with another non-profit to develop a draft Supreme Court Code of Conduct addressing such critical issues as recusal, disclosure, transparency in decision-making, and prohibitions against the appearance of partiality.

Creating the Democracy Commitment, to encourage lawyers throughout the country to use their skills and influence to protect our democratic institutions. We hope all lawyers will review and sign this commitment.

WHAT WE NEED: As efficient and effective as LDAD is, our work cannot continue without private donations, our only source of income. We hope you are inspired by what has been accomplished. Please invest in LDAD’s future work with a donation of $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or more today.
