FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel's proposal would prohibit broadband providers, like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon, from blocking or throttling internet traffic to some websites and speeding up access to others that pay extra, and regulate broadband service like a utility, not a luxury.

During her announcement, Rosenworcel laid out the stakes for everyday Americans, saying: “[The pandemic] made it crystal clear that broadband is no longer nice-to-have; it’s need-to-have for everyone, everywhere. It is not a luxury. It is a necessity. It is essential infrastructure for modern life. No one without it has a fair shot at 21st century success. We need broadband to reach 100 percent of us—and we need it fast, open, and fair.”

Wealthy phone and cable companies successfully blocked President Biden’s FCC appointment for two years, undermining the commission's ability to reinstate the Obama-era protections. Thanks to relentless grassroots advocacy, the FCC can finally move forward. To ensure the strongest possible protections, now is the time to ramp up grassroots support.

Jack, excellent news: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Jessica Rosenworcel has announced plans to restore net neutrality!

We've been waiting years to undo the damage done during the Trump administration. Wealthy phone and cable companies have spent millions to block, delay, or weaken these net neutrality protections—this time will be no different. Let's make it clear that everyday Americans support keeping the internet free and open.

Without basic net neutrality protections, corporations like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T are able to block, throttle, and slow access to sites and services at will, charge new fees for users and companies to reach audiences online, and freely sell our data. Internet users and small media outlets like Daily Kos are at the mercy of big telecom companies.

The Trump administration allowed Big Telecom to effectively control the FCC. When President Biden promised to restore net neutrality, telecom lobbyists successfully deployed an abhorrent, well-funded campaign to keep the commission in deadlock and stymied its ability to restore net neutrality rules. It took massive grassroots pressure to finally fill the fifth and final tie-breaking seat on the commission.

Now, with the FCC at full force, we can restore net neutrality. However, Big Telecom will continue to make reinstating the Obama-era protections an uphill battle. To ensure the strongest possible protections, now is the time to ramp up grassroots support.
