Attention all Commercial Scallop Harvesters:
The department is searching for a vessel to conduct pre- & in-season scallop surveys in either Isle au Haut Bay or the Swans Island rotational areas.
Each survey will consist of a single day sampling approximately 25 sites to monitor the fishing effort in these areas. These surveys will be conducted using the state survey dredge, which is a 7 foot unlined dredge weighing approximately 1,200 lbs. Two scientists will be aboard to record the station information and measure the scallops. The vessel crew will be responsible for operating all fishing gear. The boat will be paid $1,500/day and must be capable of towing the survey dredge and have sufficient space to measure the catch. The vessel will need to obtain a US Coast Guard Commercial Fishing Safety examination, if vessel does not possess a current valid sticker. The schedule of each sampling day is relatively flexible and is planned to avoid fishing days with the first survey occurring the last week of November prior to the season opening.
If you?re interested in participating in this survey please contact Carl at [email protected] before October 15th. Wishing everyone a good season!
