The C-Suite Skills That Matter Most Landing a job as a CEO today is no longer all about industry expertise and financial savvy. What companies are really seeking are leaders with strong social skills. That’s what the authors discovered after analyzing nearly 5,000 job descriptions for C-suite roles. Their explanation for this trend? Business operations are becoming more complex and tech-centered; workforce diversity is growing; and firms face greater public scrutiny than ever before. To succeed in the future, the authors argue, companies will need to focus on those skills when they evaluate CEO candidates and develop in-house talent.
It’s no longer safe to assume that leaders with traditional managerial pedigrees will succeed in the C-suite. An analysis of executive-search data shows that companies today are prioritizing social skills above technical know-how, expertise in financial stewardship, and other qualifications.

WorkWorkWork'They were on holiday, just like us': campsite guests mourn victims of Venice coach crash Sitting by the pool with her friends on Wednesday afternoon, Antonia Moses, 30, who lives in Germany but is originally from Namibia, said they felt too afraid to leave the site. "We are traumatised by what happened," she said. "We had also considered getting that bus but decided to stay in Venice a little longer. But we didn't sleep all night as we couldn't stop thinking about it, and wondering about the victims and how their families must be feeling." WorkThousands of refugees could be made homeless in UK's asylum backlog clearance A Home Office spokesperson said: "We do not recognise these forecasts. All asylum applications are considered on individual merits. We encourage individuals to make their onward plans as soon as possible after receiving their decision, whether that is leaving the UK following a refusal, or taking steps to integrate in the UK following a grant. We provide support for refugees to access jobs, benefits and housing." WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkUSWNT Big Board: With no coach and no momentum, how will 2024 Olympics team look? Another question: Should 18-year-old Jaedyn Shaw be a central attacking midfielder, or a striker? She says she prefers to be a No. 10 playmaker, but the USWNT player pool might have more room right now for another striker and, well, she\'s good at both. Either way, she is a player whose development is worth keeping an eye on. If the next coach goes full bore on the next generation for the Olympics, Shaw could even take Morgan\'s spot.
