Dear John,

The special session on school vouchers starts next week.

It’s odd that the governor would pursue such a broadly unpopular plan. Across the state, people feel a general sense of foreboding and skepticism. Rightly so. Vouchers don’t work. Anywhere.

This isn’t theoretical; it’s demonstrated around the country.

The voucher crowd seems uninterested in the facts, uninterested in student performance. Perhaps on account of their social agenda, they are instead hell bent on pushing a social agenda by destroying public schools. Like, for real.

I’m not having it.

This past session when the Senate made the public education funding and reform bill contingent on including a voucher plan, I couldn’t abide it. At the mic I called it irresponsible, and then passed out an amendment to strip vouchers from the education bill. I lost the vote in the Senate. But the House, thankfully, rejected the hijacked version of the education bill.

Now we’re back. And the voucher pushers, which unfortunately includes the governor, want an even more ambitiously destructive voucher plan.

I’m readying our defenses so I can hold my colleagues to account if they attempt to hold public school funding hostage. But I can’t do this alone. Can you chip in $25 today to help power my reelection campaign? ([link removed])
