Her first opponent, already funded by Republicans, formally launched her campaign this week and is expected to raise millions from the same dark billionaire donors who funded the racist attacks against Summer last time.

Like many of our WFP champions, Summer has led with a commitment to fighting for people over corporations and communities over special interests.
That’s exactly what has made her such a priority target for the dark money playbook of the 2024 election cycle.
The same billionaire-backed super PACs who sank more than $4,000,000 into attack ads to defeat Summer in 2022 are expected to try to take her down again in 2024, starting by recruiting primary opponents and then massively funding them.
That’s why we’ve got to start preparing for this race now, so that Summer can have a fair shot against the dark money corporate PACs already lining up against her — and so that we keep on winning victories for working people.
We know that progressives can get outspent and still win, John. Summer proved it last year when she overcame millions in opposition funding from the lobbying group AIPAC, and became the first Black woman elected to Congress from Pennsylvania.
But it wasn’t easy to do then, and it definitely won’t be easy to do again. The most vulnerable House seats are held by first-term members like Summer, whose adversaries aren't just partisan Republicans and the billionaire donors who finance their campaigns — but also corporate Democrats who are bought and paid for by Big Banks, Big Pharma, Big Oil, and Big Tech.
Between now and next year, these forces are only going to redouble their efforts to try and beat us, which means we have to do the same.
