Tell the Department of Transportation: It’s Time for Cleaner Cars

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering new fuel efficiency standards for cars sold in the U.S.

This could be huge — we need everyone to take action before the October 16 deadline. It only takes a minute to add your name. Tell the Department of Transportation to adopt strong fuel efficiency standards that will help transition us to a cleaner transportation future.
TAKE ACTION NOW

Friend — we’re coming up on a key public comment deadline as the federal government considers new standards to improve the fuel efficiency of cars sold in the U.S. Time is running out to make your voice heard.

Here’s where things stand: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently proposed new standards to improve fuel economy. We now have a real shot at protecting the people most impacted by transportation pollution — all while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and saving drivers money at the pump.

Tailpipe emissions from cars, SUVs, and passenger trucks contribute to health-harming pollution that cuts short tens of thousands of lives each year and leaves even more people with respiratory diseases like asthma.

There’s still time to help us deliver over 5,000 signatures from LCV members before the October 16 deadline. It only takes a minute to add your name — tell the Department of Transportation to adopt the strongest possible fuel efficiency standards today to help transition us to a cleaner transportation future.

Tailpipe pollution harms everyone, especially communities living near highways, ports, freight hubs, and anywhere with lots of traffic. Low-wealth communities and communities of color are often hit hardest. Stronger fuel economy standards would deliver on the Biden administration’s stated commitment to environmental justice by helping to address these inequities and cleaning up the air our families breathe.

Friend, we’re expecting Big Polluters to lobby the Biden-Harris administration hard to try to defeat stronger fuel efficiency standards and protect their profits. We cannot let that happen — we need everyone in our movement to take action.

Public comments will close in just a few days. Tell the Department of Transportation to adopt the strongest possible fuel efficiency standards. You will bring us one step closer to our 5,000 signature goal while helping to create healthy communities, save consumers money, and save our planet.

Thank you for weighing in and fighting for a safer, cleaner future.

Onward,
