You are a critical part of making Big Polluters' pay!
|
Dear Friend,
A bit ago, we were excited to let you know that California is suing Big Polluters. The state joins a long list of cities and states around the country that are opening investigations and filing lawsuits against the likes of the fossil fuel industry for knowingly deceiving the public about the risks of extracting and burning fossil fuels.
And what makes this announcement even more exciting is that together, we were a part of making it happen. For almost five years now, Corporate Accountability has been calling for elected officials, and particularly state Attorneys General, to sue Big Polluters like Exxon for decades of deception. Thousands of people just like you wrote to their state’s attorney general, and other elected officials, to demand lawsuits and investigations. And a handful of extremely dedicated members and activists even held meetings with their local elected officials to lay out why Big Polluters need to be made to pay for their wrongdoing, and the impact these kinds of legal actions could have.
California’s lawsuit is a big step forward in the broader push to hold the fossil fuel industry, and other Big Polluters, legally liable for its deception. And it wouldn’t have happened without your support.
And now we need to ask if you’ll do a bit more. Will you take a moment to donate to Corporate Accountability so we can keep pushing these kinds of campaigns forward?

Let's keep pushing to make Big Polluters pay!

We know from our history challenging Big Tobacco just how impactful these kinds of legal actions can be.
In the late 1990s, thanks in part to campaigning by people like you, dozens of state attorneys general launched investigations and lawsuits against the tobacco industry. The process brought to light page after page of industry documents that completely exposed Big Tobacco’s abuses -- and catalyzed swift, transformative tobacco control policy not just in the U.S., but all around the world. And their legal victory requires the industry to pay billions of dollars each year to the settling states -- forever.
We’ve seen how powerful this type of campaigning can be. We can expose Big Polluters’ deception, clear them out of policymaking, and hold them accountable. In fact, it’s an essential step in the broad, powerful, and growing movement all over the world to finally implement the just climate solutions we know we need.
Thanks to your efforts, together with allies we’re making serious strides on holding Big Polluters liable. But going toe-to-toe with the likes of Exxon, Chevron, and Shell isn’t easy. We can only do it with the support of people like you.
Donate now to ensure we have the resources we need to keep pushing to make Big Polluters pay for their decades of deception.
Onward,
Climate team,
Corporate Accountability
