News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

For years, I have heard horror stories of people having to cut back or skip doses of their medication because it is too expensive. I worked with my Democratic colleagues to lower drug prices by passing the Inflation Reduction Act

  • We capped the price of insulin at $35 per month for Medicare beneficiaries, saving seniors who rely on insulin in our district an average of $560 annually. Since then, the three largest insulin manufacturers have followed our lead to lower out-of-pocket costs for all consumers.
  • Recommended vaccines, including shingles, are now available to all seniors at no cost. As the COVID-19 vaccine moves to the commercial market, I announced new funding for local health centers to ensure everyone can get vaccinated and protect themselves this fall, regardless of their insurance status.
  • Drug manufacturers are now required to pay rebates to Medicare if they raise prices faster than inflation. Starting on October 1st, beneficiaries can save up to $618 per dose on 34 different prescriptions covered through Medicare Part B.
  • Medicare is now allowed to directly negotiate lower drug prices for consumers. The Biden Administration recently announced the first ten drugs selected for negotiation, and this week, drug manufacturers agreed to enter negotiations.

Additionally, the State of Connecticut has announced a new discount card offering up to 80% savings on generic prescription drugs and 20% savings on name-brand prescription drugs for all residents. To receive a discount card, you must apply online at ArrayRXCard.com

I remain committed to lowering prescription drug prices for everyone and am cosponsoring legislation to extend these cost-saving measures to Americans on private insurance. I will continue to urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support Social Security 2100, my legislation to strengthen Social Security and ensure benefits keep pace with inflation.
