This year’s Impact Report celebrates the unity and diversity of our global movement that strengthens and advances our mission to protect the right to clean water in communities around the world. To achieve this, Waterkeeper Alliance ensures that Waterkeeper groups are as connected to each other as they are to their local waters, organizing the fight for clean water into coordinated action on all levels.
Read about these victories and more:
Our commitment to water quality monitoring with our first-of-its kind report on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances contamination in U.S. surface waters; an exciting new partnership to advance democratization, transparency, and accessibility for real-time water data; and actionable outcomes from our regional summits that educated and inspired Waterkeepers from Asia, Europe, and North America.
Our commitment to combat climate change through key legal victories such as a settlement to prevent new oil and gas drilling on 58,000 acres of public lands in the western U.S.; a successful petition to overturn a Clean Water Act permit challenge for Colorado’s Gross Dam; and a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its failure to set limits on harmful chemicals.
Our commitment to advance environmental justice with a hard-won victory for slaughterhouse regulation reform, which disproportionately impacts under-resourced, low-income, and communities of color; and delivering a declaration on behalf of a global coalition calling for the United Nations to prioritize the protection of natural water systems as a human right.
Thank you for your continued support and for your individual efforts to bring about collective change for clean water.
