After embarrassing themselves over the budget and almost shutting down the government, you'd think House Republicans would be scrambling to prove to their constituents that they can do their jobs. Instead, they spent time this week removing their own Speaker.

Make no mistake: Kevin McCarthy is unprincipled and untrustworthy. He voted to overturn a free and fair election, refused to stand up to Trump when he attacked our democracy, and allowed the worst elements of his party to weaken the House. As Speaker, he brought America to the brink of a default and to the brink of a shutdown. He cannot be trusted to govern.

But instead of the latest battle in the Republican Civil War, I wish we could've spent the day passing laws to move American families forward. When Democrats were in control, we passed landmark legislation to cut costs and support working and middle-class families. And more than anything, I want to continue that work.

But MAGA Republicans aren't interested in governing. They only care about causing division, dysfunction, and chaos. And it's clear that the only way to stop them is by voting them out and taking back the House.
