John, GOP leaders in Raleigh are about to start the redistricting process. If this feels like déjà vu to you, it’s because we’ve been here before time and time again.
Republicans have tried over and over to gerrymander our state’s legislative and congressional districts to give their party an unfair advantage. Up until now, the Courts have helped to shape better maps than they would have been.
But with a far-right majority now on the state Supreme Court, we can’t predict what the outcome will be — or if the GOP will get their way.
I’ve called for a Nonpartisan Redistricting Committee before, John because I believe that every North Carolina voter deserves to have their voice heard. Sign my petition today if you agree >>>
We all know that North Carolina is a 50-50 state. Under the current congressional maps drawn by the courts, we have seven Republican representatives to Congress, and seven Democrats.
But under their own state legislative maps, Republicans drew themselves into a one-vote supermajority.
John, you deserve to have your vote count as much as any other. Establishing a Nonpartisan Redistricting Commission would ensure that future legislative maps accurately reflect the political reality of our state and fairly represent all our people.
I need you to add your name next to mine to call for a Nonpartisan Redistricting Committee before Republicans get the chance to undermine our democracy for good >>>
Thank you,
Roy Cooper
