Hi John,

I am Lindsey Cheek and I am running to be Louisiana’s first female Attorney General.

I hate how money controls all of this, but it does.

I gave $1k to every female Democrat I met running this year in Louisiana. I did it because I am a Democratic woman running for office in Louisiana. And no one believes that Democratic women in Louisiana have a chance—but with support and conviction, they absolutely do.

I am running because I know that women deserve to be represented by politicians, not oppressed by them. Politicians in Louisiana have criminalized doctors for helping women when they are most in need. Louisiana needs women in office who respect women’s right to decide if she wants to become a mother.

Forcing women to carry out pregnancies they otherwise would not is cruel and is abuse of police power. It infringes upon our basic right to bodily autonomy and privacy. There is a war in Louisiana over how much authority the government can have over a woman’s body and right now the government is winning and women are losing.

But this election season, women are running to fight for women rights in Louisiana. Women like me and women like Britt are running because women down here are pissed that in the worst place to raise a family accounting for education, poverty, violence, pollution, and opportunity- Louisiana would criminalize doctors who help women who cannot be pregnant or give birth.

I met Britt from her social media. I said, “Holy shit, this girl just came right out there and told the state her abortion story. What a badass.” I followed her journey and saw her authenticity through her social media posts.

Britt is running because she knows what it is like to be pregnant and not be able to parent. She has worked at a medical center that provides abortion, so she knows the infinite reasons women find themselves in need of an abortion. She respects women’s choice and she is advocating for their rights.

People need to pay attention to what is happening in Louisiana, because we are on the front lines of a new America, and not a good one. We are fighting for bodily autonomy, our privacy, and our right to determine our destinies.

Women like Britt need help, because speaking truth to power ain’t easy and it certainly is not free.

Britt’s opposition was a staunch proponent of not allowing any exceptions to the Louisiana abortion law- an absolute ban except to “save the life of the mother”.

Britt is a mom, a single mom who worked her way through law school raising a child on her own. Instead of taking the bar and starting her law practice, she ran for office, because she knew that Beth deserved to be challenged for her disrespect of women’s rights and liberties.

She has put her whole self into this race.

I am asking that you check her out and split a donation between mine and Britt’s campaign—whatever you can spare at this moment makes a big difference:

Donate another amount or multiply your impact with a monthly contribution!

Louisiana needs Britt in the Senate to tell the state legislature to take their unconstitutional abortion laws and shove it. Thank you for helping Britt fight to win this crucial contest.
