Young people who are outraged by attacks on queer & trans youth across the country are invited to our new trainings for LGBTQ+ History Month. All attendees will join our national network of youth activists called Act Out!
Hi John,
During LGBTQ+ History Month, we celebrate countless activists who marched in the streets, demonstrated at government buildings, came out and spoke out for LGBTQ+ equality, justice, and liberation. Today a new generation of activists is leading the backlash to "Don't Say Gay or Trans" laws, book bans, and attacks on gender-affirming care! Young people have led massive walkouts, testified at hearings and school board meetings, and in some cases successfully stopped harmful anti-LGBTQ legislation.
If you're one of those young people fighting back (or you want to be!), join us on Zoom for our National Coming Out Day training next Wednesday! We know coming out has been one of the most powerful tools our movement has used to shape and change views of LGBTQ+ people, and improve policy. It's also complicated, and not always safe. As National Coming Out Day approaches, we wanted to offer a training that harnesses the power of coming out and speaking out, but also acknowledges that coming out looks different in different communities.
The training is part of Act Out!, our national network of young people fighting for LGBTQ equality, justice, and liberation! Young people are the target of these hateful laws, and we are energized and ready to fight back! We’re ready to act out for equality, act out for justice, act out for our lives and the safety of our communities and our friends.
Leading this training will be the one and only louie ortiz-fonseca, creator of Gran Varones, host of Kikis with Louie, and Director of LGBTQ Health & Rights at Advocates for Youth. I will also be joining him for a section about how to testify at school board hearings, public rallies, and more.
Hope to see you there,
Geoff Corey (he/him/his)
