Last week, Sanford Bishop led bipartisan opposition to the FY24 Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies funding bill which would have risked food, fiber, and medicine for every American.

This bill would have slashed critical funding from programs that support rural communities and families, including cutting $500 million from the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and $800 million from the WIC program. But with Congressman Bishop's leadership, this bill was defeated.

Instead of focusing on ensuring families are able to afford and access food, this Republican majority — beholden to its extremist members — has been focused on refuting medical science and taking away a woman’s freedom to control her own reproductive health choices.

The GOP House is playing games and distracting people with culture wars while they make detrimental cuts to vital programs that Americans depend on.

Mere days before the government was set to shut down, House members were debating an extremist messaging bill rather than finding a bipartisan solution to keep the government open.
