3 ways to show your support for Latina Equal Pay Day

Dear Colleague,

October 5 is Latina Equal Pay Day, and we’re hoping you’ll take action on federal policy and raise awareness with us on social media.

Latina workers grapple with a disheartening pay gap. In 2022, Latinas earned on average only 52 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men. This accounts for part-time, full-time, and seasonal workers across all industries. Help end this discrimination.

Here are 3 ways to show your support and take action for Latina Equal Pay Day

1. Participate in the Social Media Storm

Please join us for a nationwide social media storm at 2pm ET/11am PT on October 5, co-hosted by Equal Pay Today, LCLAA and Justice for Migrant Women. We will be uniting to address glaring injustice in the workforce impacting Latina workers. Amplify the conversation and advocate for change. Copy and paste pre-drafted content on your social channels using the toolkit linked below. Our collective hashtags for the day will be #LatinaEqualPay and #Trabajadoras.

USE THIS MESSAGE TO SAY ¡PÁGAME!

Together we demand more on #LatinaEqualPay Day. Latinas are paid just 52 cents, on average, for every $1 a white man is paid, resulting in lost pay amounting to over 1 million dollars over the course of a 40-year career. We can’t wait to be paid equally, and we shouldn’t have to. We must be paid fully and fairly NOW.  #LatinaEqualPay #Trabajadoras @mujerxsrising @lclaa

2. Email Congress about the Paycheck Fairness Act

Sign the petition to urge federal lawmakers to take swift action:

1) Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, prohibiting employers from retaliating against employees who discuss wages and from requiring salary history for hiring, and reduce barriers to demonstrating that pay discrimination has occurred.

2) Pass the Raise the Wage Act of 2023, which aims to raise the federal minimum wage to $17 an hour by 2028 and eliminate sub-minimum wages for tipped workers, workers with disabilities, and youth workers.

3) Pass the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights and the Restaurant Worker Bill of Rights.

TELL CONGRESS TO ACT NOW

3. Support Organizations Fighting for Equal Pay for All

We can’t make change alone. Thank you for joining the fight for fairness by supporting organizations demanding equal pay for all like Justice for Migrant Women, your local women’s fund or foundation, LCLAA, and the Equal Pay Today campaign.

SUPPORT THE WORK

Working people from across sectors are organizing and pushing for better conditions. Actors and writers to hotel workers, domestic workers, farmworkers, auto workers, city workers, restaurant workers & more, including millions of working Latinas, are making their voices heard to be paid fully and fairly now.
Join us in this day of action on October 5, 2023 with @mujerxsrising @equalpay2dayorg @lclaa
