Well, folks, we successfully averted a government shutdown.
There’s no state in the country that would have been hit harder than Virginia during a shutdown – we have more than 140,000 federal employees working here . 2,000 TSA agents and air traffic controllers in the state would have been forced to work without pay. Federal workers and servicemembers wouldn’t have received their paychecks. Cancer research would have halted. And the women and children that rely on nutrition assistance were almost left out to dry.
We were just hours away from chaos, all because extreme House Republicans prioritize one thing and one thing only: Their own political gain.
Meanwhile, State Senator Aaron Rouse, who is running for election in the 22nd District, carried a bill earlier this year that would have given a 30-day stay of eviction for residents who are furloughed by the federal government during a shutdown. Unfortunately, and no surprise here, the Republican controlled House of Delegates killed the bill on arrival.

Republicans aren’t looking out for Virginians. Democrats like Aaron Rouse are.
If we want Virginians to be protected from Republicans’ reckless and dangerous political games, we need to send Aaron back to the Virginia Senate. Can you chip in anything you can afford to support his campaign?

This isn’t the first time, nor the last time, that the GOP will try to force us into a painful, pointless shutdown. Shutdowns have a terrible human cost, one that they blissfully ignore.
Aaron is all the proof that we need that Democrats always have the people of the Commonwealth in mind. We need him back in the General Assembly if we want proactive, effective leadership for Virginia.
Thank you,
Mark
