Welcome back to the Redistricting Roundup! It's been a whirlwind of activity, and the fight against gerrymandering continues unabated. Map manipulators and right-wing actors persist in their attempts to cement power through unfair practices. Before I delve into what’s happening in redistricting, will you join our fight to end gerrymandering as we enter into the final quarter of 2023?

The Latest in the Fight for Fair Maps:

• In Ohio, after limiting public input, the Republican-controlled Commission proposed new state legislative maps in the dead of night after delaying the process for a year.

• In Alabama, a special master released new congressional maps, addressing legislative non-compliance with the Voting Rights Act. The U.S. Supreme Court denied Alabama's emergency motion, emphasizing the importance of adherence to the rule of law.

• In Louisiana, a successful challenge is leading to the creation of a second Black opportunity district.

• In Georgia, a federal district court is poised to issue a decision on challenges to both congressional and state legislative maps.

• In Florida, a discriminatory congressional map has been struck down, paving the way toward fair representation.

• In New York, a recent Court of Appeals order noted that nothing is stopping the Independent Redistricting Commission from beginning work on a new congressional map for the 2024 elections.

Will you chip in to strengthen our fight? Your contribution will help us build the infrastructure needed to combat any attempts to undermine democracy and help us maintain the momentum in safeguarding fair maps. >> [link removed]

As A.G. Holder reminds us, "The best way to fight back against these forces is clear: accountability." Shedding light on this issue is a vital first step, but citizens must also hold legislators accountable by activists, organizers, and voters when they abuse their power.

The Bottom Line: Redistricting is Happening Now.

Support from folks like you helps us stand firm against these anti-democratic forces, holding them accountable and pushing forward in our fight for fair maps.

Thank you for being an essential part of this critical mission.
