A Historic Step Forward

Friend of Israel,
I’m excited to share with you a major victory we had in Washington this past month. Last week, the U.S. announced that Israel was formally accepted into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP), a historic step forward in the U.S.-Israel relationship that will further strengthen ties between the two countries.
It will now be easier than ever for Israelis to visit the U.S. for tourism or business. It is estimated that the increased Israeli travel will support more than 6,000 American jobs.
AIPAC has lobbied for this move for years, and thanks to the dedication of millions of pro-Israel Americans, we can be proud of ensuring another vital step forward in strengthening the U.S.-Israel alliance.

50 years later: Anniversary of the Yom Kippur War
The big picture: This Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Yom Kippur War - a moment when Israel’s survival was in jeopardy. Coordinated attacks from Egypt and Syria caught Israel off guard. Israel suffered catastrophic losses and desperately needed help.
The Jewish state needed help, but the world refused to give it. Except for one country — America.
Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir pressed President Nixon. And with five famous words, he changed the course of the war: “Send everything that can fly.”
Why it matters: This pivotal moment in history turned the tide of the war and proved the importance of the bond between America and Israel. Through AIPAC, pro-Israel Americans across the country work to ensure this bond remains strong and Israel's survival is never left to chance.
Important pro-Israel provisions pass House
Last week, the House of Representatives passed three of its annual appropriations bills with important bipartisan pro-Israel provisions, including:
-
The full $3.3 billion in security assistance for Israel, without or conditions
-
$500 million for U.S.-Israel missile defense cooperation
-
$87.5 million for U.S.-Israel anti-tunneling and counter-drone cooperation
-
$50 million for the Nita M. Lowey Middle East Partnership for Peace fund, which encourages people-to-people engagement
-
$8 million for U.S.-Israel homeland security and cybersecurity cooperation
The bottom line: By working with pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans in Congress, AIPAC helps ensure Congress continues to stand with Israel and ensure this funding is passed into law.

Iran’s aggression grows, threatening American and Israel
The Iranian regime is a threat to America, Israel and our other allies. Iran is generating over $150 million per day in revenue by selling oil in violation of U.S. sanctions. The overwhelming majority of these oil sales are to China.

read this new AIPAC factsheet explaining how Iran’s oil sales are fueling a dangerous regime in six key ways. Iran’s illicit oil sales:
-
Fuel attacks against Americans
-
Fuel terrorism against Israel
-
Fuel Putin’s weapons supply
-
Fuel harassment of global shipping
-
Fuel its nuclear program
-
Fuel a repressive regime
The big picture: Iran is funding a global network of terrorist proxies while advancing its nuclear program and supplying weapons for Russia’s war in Ukraine. See below for what you can do to help counter this threat.

The bipartisan Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act imposes sanctions on foreign ports and refineries that process petroleum exported from Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions.
