Whether it’s a Wall Street executive or gun lobbyist, Katie is willing to
call out BS when we see it. She wrote to you yesterday about her passion
for good government oversight and how it makes a difference in people’s
lives. You can check out that message below.

When I first ran for Congress in 2018, some political consultants asked me
“what I was running on.” They listed a standard set of issues in which I
was supposed to choose from—healthcare, LGBTQ+ issues, abortion rights—you
get the idea.
I’m going to run on good oversight and consumer protection, I told them.
Oversight is often about the gap between what politicians say at a press
conference and what actually happens. That means overseeing the Pentagon
and holding the defense industry accountable when it wastes taxpayer
dollars. It means overseeing my colleagues when they trade stocks based on
what we learn in private briefings. It means overseeing Big Pharma
companies when they price gouge and mislead patients.
I didn’t think ‘running on oversight’ was a crazy idea. Oversight is a
powerful tool, and even before I got to Congress I had seen that
firsthand. In 2012, I was appointed by then-Attorney General of California
Kamala Harris to be California’s Independent Monitor over the Big Banks.
She had secured an $18 billion settlement from the banks whose predatory
lending practices had caused the 2008 mortgage crisis. It was my job to
oversee and hold the banks’ feet to the fire to make sure California
families actually got the money they were owed.
I’m proud to have made effective oversight one of my priorities in
Congress. I even stuck it on my minivan license plate!

Now, I’m taking our fight to the U.S. Senate so I can hold powerful
corporations and leaders of both parties to account. But I can’t do this
alone. [ [link removed] ]Can you chip in $5 today to help power our
