📜 It’s a Wrap: BIG Wins this Legislative Session!

The 2023 legislative session wraps up with GREAT news for affordable housing! Together, we’ve unlocked structural shifts that will make it easier to advance affordable housing solutions NOW.

This year, we worked with our partners and members to pass many (many!) legislative bills that mark a turning point for affordable housing legislation. From making it easier to build affordable housing to addressing outdated state rules that limit local communities’ ability to invest in affordable housing and more, we set out with big ambitions, scaled to our communities’ urgency.

The eight NPH priority bills passed share the common thread of digging deep to remove barriers and unlock opportunities that will meaningfully change the landscape of affordable housing at large.

Support Affordable Housing Solutions Our successes this year are a powerful reminder of what's possible when we dream big and come together to invest in transformative solutions. Donate to NPH today to support our efforts and/or join NPH’s legislative working group to shape our legislative strategy moving forward.

👋 Help Us Welcome Our Newest Team Members!

Three new staff

Join us in welcoming our newest staff members: Deputy Director Jennifer Tapken, Fund Development & Membership Associate Oksana Amador, and (soon-to-be) Director of Campaigns & Community Engagement Bill Barnes!

Jennifer (she/her) is responsible for the overall strategy and internal management of NPH in the areas of Operations/Admin, HR, Finance, Facilities, Technology, and Systems. Jennifer brings over 15 years of experience in human resources, DEI, organizational operations, IT, and financial management with nonprofit, healthcare, and academic institutions. Her most recent positions were COO at Save the Redwoods League and COO at the ACLU of Northern California.

Oksana (she/her) is working to support membership engagement and fundraising activities. Before joining NPH, Oksana was the Development Associate at Global Fund for Women, where she managed a small portfolio of donors and served as her team’s database manager working to improve stewardship and cultivation efforts across the organization. Oksana was raised in San Jose and found a deep passion for community advocacy at a young age; she hopes to support marginalized communities through her work at NPH.

Bill (he/him) will join NPH in late October 2023 as Director of Campaigns & Community Engagement, where he will lead NPH’s state and regional campaign initiatives and work to grow our member/resident voter engagement.

For more than 20 years, Bill worked alongside local and state officials who support affordable housing. He's developed groundbreaking engagement programs for low-income residents and delivered voter registration and turnout programs throughout California.
