Yesterday’s unprecedented action – to remove Representative Kevin McCarthy as Speaker – has left the U.S. House leaderless and rudderless.

Many in our community have asked why the Problem Solvers Caucus could not deliver a bipartisan solution to avert this debacle. Worse still, yesterday’s outcome has left nerves raw within the Caucus and some members are threatening to walk away from the group. So we are gathering our community on a call today at 6:30 PM ET to provide an update on the state of play within the Caucus and Congress.

The most immediate problem facing America is that the funding provided by last week’s continuing resolution runs out in 40 days and the U.S. government will soon return to the brink of shutdown.

Without a Speaker, the House has ground to a halt. And we fear the pathways to avert an actual shutdown are constrained, perhaps non-existent, without a functioning Problem Solvers Caucus. We continue to believe strongly in the importance of the Problem Solvers Caucus as a force for good in a broken Congress, and so we are asking each member of the Caucus to put aside emotions and get back in the room – together – to search for a bipartisan solution to this crisis. And we ask members of our community to encourage every member of the Problem Solvers Caucus to do so.
