Yesterday afternoon, I proudly voted YES to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.

Throughout his short tenure as Speaker, Rep. McCarthy made it his mission to dismantle women’s right to choose, covered up a criminal conspiracy to help Donald Trump, put a halt any and all progress on combating the climate crisis, and was a threat to our very democracy itself.

He voted to overturn the 2020 election. He voted to overthrow President Biden. And he stood idly by while members of his Party threatened physical violence against other members of Congress.

From the very beginning when he threw me off the House Foreign Affairs Committee and sanctioned racist, bigoted attacks against me, he has been a weak and cowardly politician, one who has routinely put his own self-interest above those of his district, my district, and every other district in the country.

The American people deserve a government that works for them, not right-wing special interest groups and corporate lobbyists. They deserve a functioning House of Representatives, one that is responsive to their needs. And they deserve leaders who put the needs of working people above their own.

Put simply, the entire GOP — from Kevin McCarthy to Matt Gaetz to Donald Trump — has thrown our government into chaos, and the American people are sick of playing their game.

They must be defeated in 2024. Doing so starts with making sure we have the resources required to do so. That’s why I am asking, especially today:

Can you make a contribution — of or anything you can — to support our re-election campaign? The clown show that is the Republican Party must be defeated in 2024, and the only way we can do that is together.

As always, I remain ready to fight for working people across Minnesota and the entire country, and will work with anyone who does the same.

Kevin McCarthy never showed any interest in doing that.
