Republican congressman to nominate Trump for House speaker
Faced with a dearth of viable or willing candidates, Republicans have already begun floating and endorsing the four-times indicted disgraced ex-president Donald J. Trump as the next Speaker of the House. Rep. Troy Nehls has already announced his intention to nominate Trump when the House reconvenes, and Marjorie Taylor Greene (of COURSE) has declared that she would endorse his Speakership. It's extremely hard to see Trump willingly taking on something that would take so much time out of his busy schedule of watching cable TV and rage-chugging Diet Cokes, but the endorsements are a clear sign that the GOP has no intention of moderating its behavior, taking governance seriously, or doing anything except obediently prostrating itself before the would-be tyrant. VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump screws himself with massive misstep in NY trial
Proving once again that nobody is a greater enemy to Donald Trump than Donald Trump himself, the repeatedly indicted crook launched a deranged attack on the judge in his massive civil case — setting the stage for a ruling that could wipe out a meaningful swath of his finances.

Matt Gaetz and Kevin McCarthy SCREWED as GOP feud erupts
No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen: Whoa...
Kevin McCarthy ousted, won't run for speaker again
Kevin McCarthy may not have any accomplishments from his astonishingly unproductive Speakership, but he will always be remembered for being the first House Speaker expelled from leadership in American history. A feckless coward who made a deal with the devil to get the job in the first place, McCarthy will ignominiously return to being just another GOP backbencher after being humiliatingly scalped by radicals in his own party. Hope it was worth it! [RETWEET THAT!]

Judge issues gag order in Trump fraud trial
Understandably upset by the disgraced former president's vicious Truth Social post attacking and doxxing his clerk, the judge in Trump's massive civil case has slapped him with a gag order, barring him from publicly speaking about any member of the court staff going forward. Given Trump's demonstrated inability to follow the law, it's likely only a matter of time before he violates the rule — and then the ball is in the judge's court to take more drastic measures. Temporary speaker immediately boots Nancy Pelosi from her office
Rather than quieting the troubled political waters left in the wake of Kevin McCarthy's historic removal from power, Rep. Patrick McHenry dove right into exploiting his role as temporary speaker by breaking precedent and ordering both Nancy Pelosi and #2 Democrat Steny Hoyer to vacate their offices. The former speaker has long occupied a coveted “hideaway” office — one that McHenry apparently wants for himself. Making matters worse, Pelosi revealed that she was still in San Francisco for her “dear friend” Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s funeral — making her “unable to retrieve my belongings at this time.” The move is a purely spiteful act of petty revenge against the Democrats for refusing to save Kevin McCarthy from his own caucus, but no amount of office-changing will ever make up for the devastating blow Republicans just dealt to their own credibility.

Right-wing media are setting the stage for the next Republican president to commit mass atrocities against immigrant families
Anti-immigrant bigotry is a constant in right-wing media, but the viciousness has been escalating in recent months, centering around a movement-wide fixation on nativist messaging. Just on Fox News in September alone, two hosts demanded the military invade Mexico to attack drug cartels; Laura Ingraham said “there is nothing more damaging to the future of this country” than immigrants; and former Trump official Monica Crowley claimed that “you have millions of illegal immigrants coming into the country bringing tsunamis of crime, drugs, disease, the massive strain on all of our resources,” which amounts to “the deliberate destruction of the country.” If Republicans regain the White House, this deeply hateful worldview will be handed the keys of state and the immense destructive powers that come with them.

Defending Tammy Baldwin's Wisconsin Senate seat is the key to preventing a second Trump presidency
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: They say whichever way Wisconsin goes, so goes the presidency — which makes defending Sen. Baldwin's seat a top Democratic priority for 2024. Can you chip in to Tammy Baldwin's re-election campaign to protect our Senate majority and help propel President Biden to a second term in this end-all-be-all battleground state?
Black suspect beaten by police has ruptured kidney, headaches; his attorneys call for a federal probe
Attorneys for a drug suspect who was repeatedly punched, elbowed and kneed by officers in northeast Florida during a traffic stop said that they are petitioning the Department of Justice to investigate the case. Le’Keian Woods suffered a ruptured kidney, throws up whenever he eats, and has migraine headaches following the confrontation on Friday, his attorneys said at a news conference outside the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office headquarters. Mug shots taken after Woods’ arrest shows him with both eyes swollen shut and bruises and cuts on his face. The fastest way to get to the truth here, of course, is for Biden's DOJ to immediately launch the requested investigation. If the cops are innocent, what do they have to hide?
Nonunion autoworkers are watching the UAW — and deciding whether they want in
The Great American Labor wave is growing. As striking United Auto Workers members fight for better wages at General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis plants, nonunion autoworkers at rival companies are starting to pay attention, and many of them are starting to support the movement. Some are even discussing the latest strike developments before work and during breaks, hoping enough teammates will become galvanized to unionize their own facility. This is how labor power spreads. Solidarity forever!
Fulton prosecutors float plea deals to Trump defendants
According to sources with inside knowledge, the District Attorney's office has extended offers to 18 defendants in the sprawling Georgia election case — or prosecutors have touched base with their attorneys to gauge their general interest in striking a deal for a reduced charge in exchange for their cooperation. For those following along, this is the end of the mob movie where the dramatic music starts to play and everyone flips on the boss.
