John, GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy was voted out of his position as Speaker of the House following a resolution to remove him – that was introduced by extremist members of his own party. This is completely unprecedented.
I can’t help but feel sad for our country today. This vote was indicative of Republicans’ unseriousness when it comes to actually serving the American people. Their bickering and infighting over culture wars is disrespectful to the positions of power and leadership they hold.

Coming off a weekend in which Congress barely avoided a government shutdown – at least for the time being – we’ve now entered uncharted territory for our country.
Instead of spending valuable time passing legislation that will help the citizens we represent, we’ll be dealing with a lengthy process of voting on a new speaker. All because Republicans are fighting some kind of internal war.
Meanwhile, Democrats are ready and willing to move America forward. You know, doing the job we signed up for.
