When Republicans try to prove to each other who’s the Trumpiest, watch out, America.
We just narrowly avoided another government shutdown, ordered by Trump and threatened by the MAGA wing of the Republican House, putting all Americans at risk.
We’ve averted the government shutdown for now. But this kind of last-minute and temporary “The Perils of Pauline” drama is itself harmful to America.
On CBS Sunday Morning, I laid out just how real this threat was -- and the continuing threat that continues to loom over us. After watching, please share with your friends to keep the conversation going!
If the government had been shut down, the effects would have harmed all Americans, but none more than working poor families and children. Disaster relief, housing subsidies, clean water, safe food inspections -- all at risk.
All this was unnecessary. The parties had worked out a suitable agreement back in May. But in the race to please the Supreme Leader, GOP extremists reneged and threatened to tie America to the tracks again.
The deal to avert a shutdown was only a temporary fix. Republicans are poised to push us to the brink again next month! The only long term solution is to remember this come November 2024, and vote accordingly.
