Here’s what’s happening: The CRA wants to hire more bureaucrats to automatically fill out tax returns for Canadians.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hi John,

Here’s what’s happening: The CRA wants to hire more bureaucrats to automatically fill out tax returns for Canadians. The tax code is too complicated. But, instead of making it simpler, the CRA wants to take over filling out Canadians’ tax returns.
That might sound like a shortcut, but there are problems.

Problem One: There are already lots of free tax filing services for Canadians. Those services are easy to find with a quick Google search. It’s wasteful for the government to spend your money duplicating a service that’s already out there for free.

Problem Two: You have to ask yourself if you trust the person who collects your taxes to maximize your tax return? It’s actually a conflict of interest to have the government filling out your tax form and check over that tax form. The auditor general has raised concerns about CRA already giving taxpayers incorrect advice.

So what can you do about it?

You can help warn Canadians about this with ads on TV and social media. Knowledge is power and you need to make sure more people know what’s going on.

Thanks for standing up for taxpayers – it’s making a difference.
