Marsha P. Johnson was one of the most notable figures of the gay rights movement in the 60s and 70s, playing a significant part in the Stonewall uprising in 1969. She advocated for gay and transgender rights, homeless LGBTQ youth, and those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Harvey Milk was an LGBTQ activist and politician who became the first openly gay elected official when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. While in office, Harvey sponsored a bill banning discrimination in public accommodations, housing, and employment based on sexual orientation.
