Team -
I’m voting to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker. He cannot be trusted and he almost plunged our government into chaos last week.
On Saturday night, we were just hours away from a government shutdown caused by our anti-American MAGA wing of the House.
Extremist House Republicans including Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert had been holding the government hostage over the past few weeks. They blackmailed Kevin McCarthy by threatening a shutdown if their extreme demands were not included in the bill to fund the government. And when McCarthy caved to their extreme demands and called a vote on a bill that included 30% cuts to social security, the far right still voted the bill down because they wanted a shutdown.
But at the eleventh hour, House Democrats came through. 209 of us voted to keep the government open while only 126 Republicans did. 90 Republicans voted NAY, sending a clear message that this extreme wing is no longer a small fraction of the GOP. Almost half of the Republican caucus was willing to shut down the government to protect their political interests, but Democrats chose to put the people first.
Team, while Democrats are ready to do the people’s work and fund the government, MAGA Republicans have once again thrown the House into chaos with their own infighting. Kevin McCarthy can’t keep his own party in order, nevermind the House. That’s why I am voting against his Speakership today.
So I am asking for your help to make sure MAGA extremists are no longer allowed to run our government again after 2024. Together, we can hold those MAGA extremists accountable at the polls next year, unseat every last one of them, and take back the House majority.
No small group of extremists should be able to hold the government, the livelihoods of working Americans, and our national security hostage. And we will hold them accountable at the polls.
Thank you,
Robert
