John,
More than a billion animals a year are beaten, dragged, and crammed onto filthy, overheated trucks and boats to be transported for fattening or slaughter. Their cries of distress and terror can be heard during the relentless, and often excruciatingly long, journey.
But there’s hope. The EU is the biggest exporter of live animals, and it's considering a ban on this cruel trade. With your help, we could win it.
Our campaign is gaining momentum. Germany has already announced a ban – and now Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden are signalling support. But there’s stiff opposition from France and Spain against regulation in Brussels. We need your help to really turn up the heat on these big players to get them on board, like commissioning new research, lobbying key ministers, running targeted ads, and exposing the companies behind the opposition.
Together, we could tip the balance and help win a Europe-wide ban this year – can you chip in today to end this animal cruelty?

Every year, Europe exports more than 1.6 billion live animals. Piglets, chicks, cows, lambs and other farm-raised animals endure never-ending journeys to their fattening or slaughtering destinations. These animals suffer abuse and horrific deaths along the way caused by physical trauma, dehydration, exhaustion, hunger and illness.
An EU ban would put an end to this cruelty, in Europe and all the countries it exports to, and would save millions of animals from dying unnecessarily during transport.
It would be better for people too. Moving huge numbers of animals across long distances in cramped, dirty quarters can lead to disease spreading and antibiotic resistance. Not to mention the enormous carbon footprint of each journey.
Winning a ban won’t be easy. Mega-exporting countries like France and Spain are pushing back hard with help from the global meat and livestock industries – our chance of winning rests on support from Ekō members like you.
With your donation and the support of hundreds of thousands of Ekō members from across the globe, we can run the campaign tactics needed, within key countries and at the EU level, to fight for a ban – and amplify the pressure from Germany, Sweden and other member states already onboard with a ban.
