Here we go again…

Whitehouse for Senate

Team,

Yet another investigative ProPublica story has dropped – again spotlighting Justice Clarence Thomas’ ties to billionaire-funded organizations scheming to influence the Court. And it’s got all the usual suspects.

One of the biggest forces in dark-money influence is the Koch network. They have a set of nonprofits – including the “Americans for Prosperity Foundation” – that funnels many millions of dollars every year to prop up Republican candidates and causes. Well, it turns out that Justice Thomas secretly participated in Koch donor network events — fundraising events for a network that has brought multiple cases before the Supreme Court.

One of the cases – the Bonta case – that the Americans for Prosperity Foundation brought to the Court was a very big deal. SCOTUS ended up striking down a California policy that required nonprofit organizations to disclose the names of all of the donors who contribute more than $5,000 per year.

So the Supreme Court’s right-wing justices, who refuse to disclose their own benefactors with business before the Court, voted to ensure that dark money donors can spend money to influence politics in secret.

If justices are deciding cases when they have a personal interest, you deserve to know. I’m fighting to make that a reality. Can you pitch in to my campaign today so I can continue my work in the Senate to create an enforceable code of ethics with investigations and determinations for the Supreme Court?

Until we get it done, it’s only a matter of time until we hear about the next scandal, team.

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
