The privacy, safety, and opportunities of female athletes are being sacrificed so that biological males can act like women as they participate in -- and often dominate -- women and girls' sports.

The following is an excerpt from testimony before the House Judiciary Committee given by former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Paula Scanlan:

My teammates and I were forced to undress in the presence of Lia [Thomas], a six-foot, four-inch tall biological man fully-intact with male genitalia, 18 times per week. Some girls opted to change in bathroom stalls and others used the family bathroom to avoid this. When we tried to voice our concern to the Athletic Department, we were told that Lia swimming and being in our locker room was non-negotiable and we were offered psychological services to attempt to re-educate us to become comfortable with the idea of undressing in front of a male.

The Left talks a lot about protecting women's rights (their euphemism for abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy). Yet they deny women and girls' right to privacy and athletic equality under Title IX, instead choosing to advance radical gender identity ideology.

Testimonies like Paula Scanlan's demonstrate that embracing gender identity ideology means the effective erasure of women and girls' sports and the endangerment of female athletes.

We cannot sit by and let this happen, because the protection of women's sports is ultimately just the tip of the iceberg of the dangers of this radical transgender ideology.

It's true that the issue of biological males dominating women's sports has served as a wedge issue to open many Americans' eyes to the ramifications of gender identity ideology.

A recent Gallup poll revealed that almost 70% of Americans believe that athletes should only compete on sports teams that match their biological sex -- a notable 7% increase from a 2021 poll. Thankfully, growing displeasure with this blatant insanity has led to increased legislation at the state level.

But while Americans are paying attention, this is an opportunity to reveal the darker, more destructive scheme beneath the surface of hijacking women's sports -- the lifelong, irreversible physical and mental harms of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and "gender-affirming" surgeries.

FRC helped craft and promote legislation known as SAFE Acts (Save Adolescents from Experimentation Acts) years ago when many did not want to touch the issue.

The idea of children being subjected to these harmful procedures by medical professionals seemed too outrageous to be possible. But we saw where the transgender agenda was leading, so we worked with states like Arkansas to pass the first SAFE Act in the nation.

Fast forward a few years, and now this issue is everywhere!

According to Biological Integrity (a project of the American College of Pediatricians), 23 states have passed legislation on this issue -- including Nebraska's law that just went into effect.

However, many are being held up in courts as Trans-activists are suing to stop this commonsense legislation. Meanwhile, states like California are threatening to strip away a parent's rights if they don't agree to embrace their child's gender dysphoria!

Hear me clearly: This isn't a red-state, blue-state issue. This agenda has crept into schools, hospitals, and the media across the country.

FRC is committed to standing with concerned citizens and educating lawmakers on how and why we must protect children from mutilation and medical experimentation. In fact, at our recent Pray Vote Stand Summit, I moderated a discussion that explored the perspectives of four individuals firmly entrenched in the conflict, including the powerful witness of a mother whose daughter now identifies as male.

This is not a time to be silent. Gender identity ideology leads to a path of destruction. We must speak with boldness, clarity, and conviction against this harmful ideology.

Thankfully, courageous individuals are beginning to stand up and share their harrowing stories of how gender transition surgeries have negatively impacted their lives. The Left fears their testimonies and tries to silence them.

But FRC has not, and will not, let them stand alone.

We must elevate their voices, educate the American people, and equip the millions of believers across the nation to take a stand for biblical and biological truth.
