We know that we have been in your inbox a lot lately, but there was just some BIG news in the Michigan Senate race that we didn’t want you to miss: James Craig, former Detroit Chief of Police and one of last year's failed Republican candidates for Governor of Michigan, announced he is running for the Senate.

This announcement is another big inflection point in our campaign. Craig marks the second serious Republican opponent to enter the race. Last month, former Congressman Mike Rogers announced his candidacy for the Michigan Senate seat. This potentially sets up a messy Republican primary.

And we know what that means: Both will be fighting to prove which of them deserves Donald Trump’s seal of approval as the Republican nominee, which of them holds sway with the restive base of the Republican party, and which of them is the most extreme on the issues of the day.

Craig, the former Detroit Police Chief, claims the mantle of the most Trump-aligned of the declared serious candidates thus far. He is against any additional gun safety laws, he opposes all abortion, including for victims of rape and incest, and denied the results of the 2020 election.

And last year, Craig was one of the 5 Republican Gubernatorial candidates that was disqualified from the primary after it was discovered that he submitted thousands of fraudulent nominating petition signatures.

The public polling in this race so far shows that Craig is leading the list of potential Republican candidates. It also shows a general election race between us and him would be very close — Elissa leads by 1, 40-39, with 21% of voters still undecided.

When you see a figure like that, it makes our game plan clear: we're going to spend the rest of this campaign reaching every single one of those voters and persuading them to give us a look in comparison to the other side.

But it’s going to take all of us coming together in a big way, especially since Democrats hold a one-seat majority in the Senate:

That’s why we’re asking in honor of a serious candidate getting in the race: Will you make a $3 contribution to our campaign today? We don’t expect you to donate to every email we send, but this is a big moment for us and a big opportunity to push back against a MAGA Republican running statewide.
