We have a new partnership with YES Prep Northline and are providing more connections!

October 2023 Update
Dear John,

Hope your September went well! We at Momentum Education have been busy and are excited to share our progress.

Firstly, Momentum Education is proud to announce that for this upcoming school year we will be partnering with YES Prep Northline to mentor
20 high school students and ensure those 20 students graduate from high school, enter college, graduate from college, and secure a job. We are thankful for YES Prep Northline's partnership, and we look forward to supporting their students.

Secondly, we are focused on ensuring every single student receives the individualized support they need. While this, of course, includes mentorship, it also includes wraparound services. This month, one of our high school students notified us that they were interested in attending Texas A&M. We connected them to one of our Momentum Education Alums who is a Texas A&M graduate. Our alum spoke to the student via phone, and the student reported to us that "Michael talked a lot about Texas A&M and the resources they had when he went there. The call went great and was exactly what I needed!" This level of personal support is the hallmark of Momentum Education, and we will maintain this level of service as we continue to serve more and more students.

Finally, we are now providing monthly mentorship and enrichment services (including essay and resume feedback, connections to scholarships and summer programs, and exposure to various careers) to 600 students.

Students of the Month Spotlight
Ashley Cruz
Sam Rayburn High School '26

Ashley attends Sam Rayburn High School and hopes to attend the University of Texas in Austin after graduation. Ashley plans on majoring in psychology and in the future plans on working as a psychologist. When asked about their experience with Momentum Education, Ashley shared, "I absolutely love Momentum Education! So far, I've had amazing mentors who gave me talks and helped me want to push myself further as a student and as a person. I used to be someone who struggled a lot with anxiety and was very shy so with the help of my mentors they pushed me by motivating me. I am now the class president, involved in a book club, FCA, Academic Decathlon, yearbook committee, journalism committee, library advisory committee, and I am starting a club for my school in November. Last year I was hardly involved and was not motivated enough so with the help of this program I am fulfilling my dreams to become more out there."

Norma Callejas

Norma is currently doing an interdisciplinary concentration to create a major in ethnomusicology where they bring together music, Hispanic studies, and Japanese. Norma received a Momentum Education Scholarship and got into the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Program earlier this year. This past summer Norma also interned at EMERGE in Houston, Texas. In the future, Norma hopes to do research and further their education in ethnomusicology after graduation. When asked about their experience with Momentum Education, Norma shared "I really love the resources and the mentor-mentee program Momentum Education has offered me. It definitely has helped me with becoming more comfortable with my transition to college. My mentor last fall was an amazing mentor and helped me through a hard patch. She was amazing at communicating and helped me become comfortable with myself and be proud to be in college." Thank you, Norma, for allowing us to be a part of this journey and for your kind words!

Alumni Spotlight
We are excited to recognize one of our alums, Edwin Munoz! Edwin is currently getting his EMT license so that he can get more patient exposure before attending medical school. When asked about his experience with Momentum Education, Edwin shared, "I liked that I got partnered with my mentor. He has been a great help! My mentor has guided me in the right track. He has given me a different perspective." Thank you, Edwin, we are honored to have been a part of your journey and to have you be a Momentum Education alum!
Team Member Spotlight
We are excited to recognize one of our interns, Liliana Arevalo! Liliana is majoring in International Relations and Global Studies with a minor in Philosophy of Law at the University of Texas at Austin. After she completes her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend law school and become an attorney. When asked about her experience with Momentum Education Liliana shared, "My experience being a mentee has been amazing so far, my previous mentor was a great person who helped me out a lot and we are good friends to this day. My experience being an intern has been a rewarding experience because I know that my small contribution is having a positive impact on many students. I decided I wanted an internship at Momentum Education after getting to know my mentor, she was an amazing person who genuinely helped me get through my freshman year of college. The impact that the Momentum Education team had on me, in the beginning, was what led me to want to be a part of this amazing group of people. I
was lucky enough to score an internship here." Thank you, Liliana, we are honored to have you for a part of our team and watch you grow as a student and a young professional!
Partner of the Month Spotlight
We are so thankful for all our partners, as we cannot serve students without their support. This month, we would like to highlight Bracewell LLP, one of our closest partners. Bracewell supports us through not only a financial contribution but also connections to Young Professional mentors for our college students, volunteers to review our high school students' college application essays, and hosting our students for in-person panels at their offices to learn more about law.
